What happens on the days I am with my training families?
- Training families guide and support you and gradually allow you more and more responsibility running the household.
- You learn to take excellent care of the children. As well as bathing, dressing and feeding them you spend time playing with them and taking them on outings.
- You learn how to gain children’s cooperation and have a productive and happy day with them by using the communication and behaviour management techniques taught in class.
- You assist to keep the house clean and organised and to keep the laundry under control. You sometimes take the children with you to the supermarket and occasionally cook meals for the whole family.
- You learn how to communicate confidently and effectively with the parents and how to sort out any issues with them.
- By the end of the course you will find you have developed excellent time-management skills from learning to juggle the needs of a busy household

You are assigned a member of the college staff as a support person. Your support person visits you at the family placement and helps and guides you throughout the course. Everything you do at the training family homes is overseen by the college. |
